Henry opened the envelope and pulled out a single page. Then he dumped the remaining contents onto the table, causing pictures, documents, what looked like tickets, and maps to spew across the table.

“Let’s see.” He looked at the page in his hand. “We’re scheduled to meet the goblins tomorrow at 2 p.m.” He glanced at the pile in front of him and sifted through it until he found a ticket. “Interesting. Apparently we’re meeting them on Alcatraz Island.”

Keren tipped her head to the side and frowned. Alcatraz was a tourist destination. It seemed an odd place to meet goblins.

“Yes.” Ordell clapped his hands. “This keeps getting better and better.”

Keren reached over, shuffling through the pile until she found the rest of the tickets. “There’re only six tickets.” She held them up. “Who’s going?”

“Call dibs.” Ordell raised his hand.

While taking his hand and pulling it back down, Nadria shook her head.

Ordell’s shoulders deflated and his horse ears drooped. “What? I’ve always wanted to go to Alcatraz.”

Henry cleared his throat. “This tells me Keren, Master Rollins, Azalea, Nadria, Ordell, and I are going. We each get a briefing packet. The dos and don’ts of our meeting.” He picked up his packet, skimming its contents. “As I’ve mentioned, our goblin friends are very particular about ceremony.”

“Wait.” Keren shuffled through the papers. “There’s no ticket for Tabitha.”

“No. There isn’t. The instructions in the packet are clear about who’s going.” He continued to peruse the documents.

Nadria stood up and walked over to Henry. “I’ll hand the packets out.” When Henry didn’t object, Nadria passed one to each of the ticket holders.

After Keren received her packet, she read aloud. “We’re scheduled for a private tour at Alcatraz. It says we’ll meet the goblins in the lower solitary cells.” A chill ran down her spine. “It doesn’t say how many goblins will be there.”

Tabitha shook her head. “No, I don’t like the sound of it. You’ll be in a confined area with an unknown number of assailants.”

Master Rollins rested his elbows on the table while steepling his fingers. “We could leave someone at a pivotal point along the way.”

“No.” Henry tapped his document. “Goblins are easily spooked. If we stray from this plan in the slightest, they won’t show up.”

“So you’ve met them before?” Tabitha asked.

“I’ve heard of others who have tried.” Henry ran his fingers through his goatee. “Never at Alcatraz though.”

“What are you thinking, Henry?” Nadria asked in a worried voice. “Are we going to be walking into a trap?”

“I don’t know. But it seems an odd place to have a private meeting,” he said.

“No kidding.” Tabitha scrubbed her face with her hand. “I have to go. Be your backup. Let’s pick up a ticket for me.”

Keren jumped when Henry slapped his hand on the table. “No!” he said in a stern voice. “Aren’t you listening? I said if we break protocol the goblins will back out of the deal.” He let out a deep breath. “Besides, they book tours months in advance.”

Something gnawed at the back of Keren’s mind.
